LEGAZPI CITY — A fisherman, who went missing in Catanduanes province after the boat he was on capsized, was found floating and alive at sea off Camarines Sur province, police said Saturday.
Romulo Flores, 39, a resident of Barangay Cabcab in San Andres town, Catanduanes, went missing 8 p.m. Friday while fishing in the waters off Codon village, also in San Andres.
He was found alive at 9:07 a.m. Saturday by another fisherman at sea in Caramoan town in
Camarines Sur, Capt. Emsol Icawat, chief of San Andres police, said.
Flores was the subject of a search and rescue by the Philippine Coast Guard and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Friday night.
On Saturday morning, group of fisherfolk volunteered for the search that turned into a retrieval when authorities thought the fisherman had died.
Icawat said the “sibid sibid,” (a small boat without engine) used by the fisherman and his companions Andy Subion, 50, and Domingo Lazado, 63, encountered rough waters several meters away from the port.
Subion and Lazado were able to save themselves by swimming to the shoreline.
Icawat said Flores would be brought to a hospital for treatment./lzb
