THE CEBU CITY Sports Institute of the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) continues its program on Jan. 23 at its headquarters at the barangay San Nicolas multi-purpose gymnasium.
The sports institute will cater to barangays Ermita, Sawang Calero, Duljo Fatima, Pahina Central, Pasil and San Nicolas.
According to CCSC chairman Edward Hayco, they will start with the boxing and basketball clinics.
“We are primarily catering on out-of-school youth so that we can drive them out of the streets and let them focus on sports,” he said. “This institute in San Nicolas is uniquely covered by seven barangays. That’s why this facility is very strategic.”
Hayco also said he is planning to add several other sports like dancesport, taekwondo, arnis, volleyball, table tennis and chess to the institute’s clinics, which will last the entire summer.
According to Hayco their inaugural year last 2011 was fruitful after more than a hundred youngsters, mostly out-of-school youth, engaged in sporting clinics.
This year, Hayco is expecting to have more participants./CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
