MANILA, Philippines — Some 2,000 police officers tapped to extend assistance areas affected by Taal Volcano’s eruption in Taal-have been ordered to return to their regular duties.
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Archie Gamboa made the order Wednesday night after President Rodrigo Duterte called for their withdrawal.
PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said in a statement that local police units and Police Regional Office IV’s Reactionary Standby Support Force “will continue to provide security and assist in all relief operations” in Batangas, with the coordination of local government units.
On Wednesday, the President said he is withdrawing police officers from Taal-affected areas as he believes their lungs are already full of ash belched by the volcano.
