Pedestrian dies in Laguna railroad mishap

SAN PEDRO CITY – A man died after he was hit by a Philippine National Railways (PNR) train in Los Baños, Laguna on Tuesday evening, police said Wednesday.

The Laguna police identified the fatality as Bobby June Benegas, 32, a resident of Barangay San Antonio.

Investigation showed that Benegas was crossing the railway with his bicycle in tow at around 9 p.m. when he was hit by the train.

Benegas was rushed to the Bay District Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival due to multiple injuries.

In December last year, a woman was also killed after a train hit her car as she and a companion crossed the tracks in Biñan City, Laguna.

The PNR a few months ago resumed its Manila – Los Baños route in line with the government’s plan to boost the mass transportation system.
