THE family of the late Cebu jurist Regalado Maambong will hold a ceremony to spread his ashes in a barrio cemetery in Asturias town, western Cebu, sometime this week.
Former Provincial Board (PB) member Victor Maambong said his father’s remains were cremated last June 1 and he brought the ashes home to Cebu last Friday.
He said his father made it clear he doesn’t want a necrological service held for him.
Maambong said the family is still deciding what specific day they would bring his ashes to Asturias.
He said the family’s friends are welcome to attend the private ceremony.
“Cordova Mayor Adelino Sitoy and his Carolinian friends are welcome,” he said.
Evening prayers will be given before the ceremony.
Victor said the family wants to have rest and private time.
“Siguro that will be the last time we will have his remains. Siguro, we will open that to all his friends,” he said.
Mayor Sitoy expressed his condolences to the family.
He said the former Commission on Elections (Comelec) commissioner was “multitalented.”
Sitoy, who studied with Maambong in a Manila university, remembered seeing him before the May elections last year.
“He was a sincere friend. A very trusted friend and a good friend,” Sitoy said. Correspondent Carmel Loise Matus
