Suspect killed, 2 cops hurt in Marikina shootout
MANILA, Philippines — Two police officers were hurt while a motorcyclist was killed in a shootout along A. Bonifacio Avenue in Marikina City on Friday morning.
A report from the Eastern Police District identified the injured policemen as Police Executive Master Sergeant Demetrio Sarita Magpali Jr. and Police Master Sergeant Edward Yap.
Initial investigation said the police officers who were on board two motorcycles, were traversing A. Bonifacio Avenue and were about to enter a mall in Barangay Barangka when the suspect opened fire, prompting the officers to return fire.
The suspect, clad in blue shorts and blue shirt, died on the spot while Magpali and Yap, who sustained injuries, were brought to a nearby hospital.
Police said they have yet to identify the suspect while the investigation is ongoing.
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) shared a video of the aftermath of the shooting incident with Metro Manila police acting chief Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas among those who inspected the scene of the shooting.
