MANILA, Philippines—The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced Tuesday that several areas may experience heavy traffic next Monday, when Catholic devotees are expected to flock to Manila for the Feast of the Black Nazarene.
Areas that will be affected during the procession rites are the following:
1. Stretch of Roxas Boulevard/ Bonifacio Drive from Anda Circle to TM Kalaw north and southbound lane
2. Southbound of Quezon Boulevard from Recto to Palanca (subway-Isetan Recto)
3. Stretch of Lerma from P. Campa to Quezon Boulevard
4. Taft Avenue/ Finance (westbound lane)
5. Lagusnilad/ P. Burgos (westbound lane)
6. P. Burgos/ Taft Avenue (Freedom Triangle-northbound lane)
7. Villegas/ N.A Lopez
8. 25th Street/ Bonifacio Drive (southbound)
MMDA also said that by 4 a.m. Monday next week, southbound lane of Quezon Boulevard (Quiapo), from Andalucia/ Fugoso to Plaza Miranda and Espana/ P. Campa/ Lerma, will be closed to public utility vehicles.
But by 5 a.m., those roads will be closed to all types of vehicles.
Rerouting of vehicles
The MDMA said that all vehicles coming from Quezon City and passing through España should turn right to P. Campa, left Andalucia, right Fugoso, and left T. Mapua to point of destination.
All PUJ’s and light vehicles coming from España intending to proceed to south pier zone will have to turn left to Nicanor Reyes, right to Recto, straight to JAS, left to Reina Regente by Jones Bridge, then right to Magallanes Drive to point of destination.
All vehicles coming from the northern part of Manila heading towards Bonifacio Drive southbound should turn right to Roberto S. Oca Street, left to Delgado, left to Bonifacio Drive (for Port Area offices ), or shall turn right to A. Soriano to Magallanes Drive, right to P. Burgos, then straight to Lagusnilad to Taft Avenue.
All vehicles coming from the southern part of Manila intending to go to the stretch of P. Burgos, take TM Kalaw, left Taft Avenue, right Ayala to bridge until point of destination.
Private vehicles coming from southern part of Manila wanting to utilize the northbound of Roxas Boulevard, shall turn right to Quirino Avenue and take Nagtahan Bridge to destination.
All PUJ’s plying Monumento-Gasak-Recto intending to utilize Andalucia through Recto shall turn right to Fugoso, right Oroqueta to point of destination.
All vehicles coming from Legarda should turn right to Recto, or left to Mendiola until the reaching destination.
All heavy vehicles and cargo trucks coming from the south, should take President Osmeña, right to President Quirino to Nagtahan via AH Lacson to Capulong (vise versa).
Other motorists intending to proceed to north, or south of Manila, are advised to take the stretch of Lacson to Nagtahan (vice versa), or stretch of Road-10 to Roxas Boulevard (vice versa) to point of destination.
All buses coming from the eastern part of Manila particularly G-Liner and RRCG busses, utilizing Legarda, should turn right to Palanca Street to Quiapo Ilalim, to point of destination.
All buses coming from Taft Avenue going to Fairview should turn right to UN Avenue to Otis, left to Nagtahan, straight to Lacson, right to España, until point of destination.
All buses from Laguna and Cavite are not allowed to enter Taft Avenue from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. They are allowed only up to Remedios Street, right to San Marcelino and back to point of origin.
