Bulacan trader slain in gun attack

PAOMBONG, BULACAN –– A 49-year-old businessman was shot dead while his live-in partner is in critical condition after an unidentified assailant shot their moving car here on Thursday morning, police said.

Police Col. Emma Libunao, Bulacan police director, said Bernardo Martin Umali was driving a black Toyota Fortuner with his partner and their 4-year-old grandson when a lone gunman on a motorcycle attacked them in Barangay Sto. Niño.

Umali, a retired seaman engaged in buying and selling cars, died on the spot during the ambush at 10 a.m.

The victims were heading home when they were attacked.

Umali’s partner suffered bullet wounds and was taken to a hospital, while their grandson was unharmed, investigators said.

Police have yet to determine the motive behind the ambush.
