MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday said it is willing to coordinate with the Senate on the possible reopening of investigation on the 2015 Mamasapano incident, where 44Special Action Force (SAF) members died in an ambush in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.

“Sa amin lang naman, [For us in the PNP], if they want us to bring records or they want us to clarify on the current policies and previous policies of the PNP and if they will invite me as a resource person, of course, I am obliged to appear,” PNP chief Gen. Archie Gamboa told reporters at a press conference in Camp Crame on Thursday, in response to the proposal to reopen the investigation.

This came after Senator Richard Gordon said he is eying an investigation into the Mamasapano incident following the dismissal of usurpation of authority and graft charges against former PNP chief Alan Purisima and former SAF head Getulio Napeñas by the Sandiganbayan’s Fourth Division.

The court’s resolution, which was released to the media on Tuesday, stated that the charges against  Purisima and Napeñas, along with former president Benigno Aquino III, for their role in the botched “Oplan Exodus” was “insufficient to merit a conviction.”
