NFA donates 2,000 bags of rice to Taal blast victims

MANILA, Philippines — The National Food Authority (NFA) has donated 2,000 bags of rice to the victims of the Taal Volcano blast victims living in affected municipalities in Batangas, as well as other nearby provinces.

In a statement released Wednesday, NFA administrator Judy Dansal said that the donation was coursed through the Department of Agriculture-Region 4A.

Dansal personally led the turn-over of the first 1,000 bags of rice to the Department of Agriculture-Southern Tagalog Integrated Agricultural Research Center Office in Lipa City, Batangas.

The bags of rice were later distributed to the evacuees at the PUP Gymnasium in Sto. Tomas, Batangas last Monday by President Rodrigo Duterte, DA Secretary William Dar, Dansal and other Cabinet members.

The other 1,000 bags, meanwhile, will be delivered within the week, Dansal said.

“Right after the eruption of Taal volcano, our office asked the approval of the NFA Council to authorize us to donate 2,000 bags of rice to be used for relief operations,” Dansal said.

“This is our own commitment as an agency to also take part in helping the victims of the eruption. We are also praying that the disaster will be over soon. But until then, we are giving you our word that NFA is ready to provide rice for the relief operations,” she added.
