Sandigan defers probable cause hearing on Arroyo graft case

/ 03:43 PM January 03, 2012

MANILA, Philippines – The Sandiganbayan’s 4th Division is holding in abeyance determination of probable cause against former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and her co-accused in a graft case to give them a chance to file motions for reconsideration of the Ombudsman’s decision to file the charges against them.

A determination of probable cause is necessary before the issuance of an arrest warrant.

In a resolution issued Tuesday, the court said the filing of motions for reconsideration with the Office of the Ombudsman was part of a full and complete preliminary investigation and of the right to due process.
