MANILA, Philippines–A militiaman was killed while two others were wounded after suspected New People’s Army rebels attacked an Philippine Army (PA) patrol base in Remedios Romualdez town in Agusan del Norte early Tuesday morning, reports reaching Camp Crame said.
The report said joint Army and police forces were still conducting pursuit operations as of posting time, against the alleged rebels who were estimated to be numbering 300.
The attack came just hours after the holiday truce declared by the government ended.
The NPA is the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines. Peace negotiations have been on-and-off between the CPP and the government since 1986.
