NCRPO cracks down on cops with unregistered vehicles

MANILA, Philippines — Around 1,500 vehicles owned by policemen and personnel of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City, underwent a surprise check on Monday.

The police camp was placed on lockdown by the NCRPO director, Police Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas, as part of “Oplan Viserion,” the Philippine National Police’s crackdown on its men with “hot cars” and improperly registered vehicles.

Motorcycles, cars and vans owned by police officers and nonuniformed personnel were examined to determine if these had proper registration documents, including official receipts, certificates of registration, license plates and conduction stickers.

They were also checked to determine if these had been reported stolen.

The checks were likewise conducted simultaneously in the five Metro Manila police districts — Northern Police District, Eastern Police District, Quezon City Police District, Manila Police District and Southern Police District.

At press time, the NCRPO could not provide details about how many of its personnel were found to be driving unregistered vehicles as the inspections were still ongoing.

But Sinas said most of the violators’ vehicles did not have plate numbers or conduction stickers, even if these had been purchased more than a year ago.

“We have to investigate why their vehicles are not registered yet. For one, these could be carnapped vehicles that were bought by our policemen so they couldn’t register them,”he added.
