LEGAZPI CITY — Some P3.8 million worth of relief assistance were turned over the past weekend to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the Southern Tagalog region from Bicol region.
Marygizelle Mesa, DSWD Bicol spokesperson, said the relief assistance consisted of 5,000 food packs, 900 infant cereals, 318 ready to eat chicken arroz caldo from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and 3,000 sleeping kits.
The relief items were loaded into 12 cargo trucks that left on Thursday for Batangas.
“One Bicol” for Taal, an emergency response initiated by DSWD Bicol, arrived on Monday afternoon in Batangas province.
Some 102 disaster responders from different disaster councils in Bicol composed of health and social workers, engineers, carpenters, police and military personnel would be dispatched to assist in various aspects of disaster operations in Batangas.
Eric Reborar, One Bicol team leader, said the group would help in manning evacuation centers, conduct psycho-social activities and water, sanitation, and hygiene management.
