MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) is considering the establishment of Chinese desks to address the influx of crimes involving Chinese nationals, newly designated PNP chief Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa said Monday.
“We need the cooperation of the Chinese people through their embassy. We will establish Chinese desks and cross training on language, on the culture so that mas maintindihan natin (we can understand) why they are doing this and how they’re going to do it,” Gamboa said in a press briefing.
Gamboa said the Chinese government had already initiated inviting members of the PNP to train in China to learn how their syndicates work.
“There are a lot of invitations, a lot of specialized schoolings and visits that has been initiated by the Chinese government of sending members of the PNP to China so that we would understand more their culture and how their syndicates do their thing in China and probably the same that they do here in the Philippines,” Gamboa said.
There has been an increase in cases of kidnapping involving Chinese nationals, mostly Philippine offshore gaming operator (Pogo) employees on tourist visas and casino players on gambling junkets organized in China, authorities said.
Their crimes are mostly kidnapping for ransom (KFR) and, lately, prostitution in dens run exclusively for Chinese Pogo workers, the PNP’s Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) previously said.
