MANILA, Philippines — The Makati City government is set to send personnel to assist in the rescue of animals and pets that have been trapped inside the danger zones in Batangas following the eruption of Taal Volcano.
Makati Mayor Abby Binay said the city government will send an impounding vehicle with personnel from the Makati City Veterinary Services Department (VSD) who will provide the Batangas Provincial Veterinary Office with dog and cat food, medicine and antiseptic solutions for animals.
“It is important to save our pets and other animals during disasters because they are also part of our families,” Binay said in a statement on Saturday.
In the same statement, Makati VSD chief Dr. Katherina Mangahas said the impounding vehicle also contains eight cages that is fit for 24 medium-sized dogs.
Makati City will also send disaster response vehicles to assist victims of the Taal Volcano eruption.
Recent reports from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said steam emission from the volcano has been steady over the past 24 hours.
State seismologists said Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 4, indicating that a hazardous eruption could happen within hours or days.
