MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday said he will appoint acting police chief Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa as the next Philippine National Police (PNP) chief.
Duterte made the announcement before the thanksgiving gathering of the Fraternal Order of Eagles at SMX Convention Center in Davao City.
“I’m going to appoint you as the regular [chief] PNP [director general]. You and I and Secretary [Eduardo] Año will have a long, long talk,” he said.
“Pinakita mo sa akin ang sincerity mo and I want you to leave something that you will be remembered by the country,” the President said.
Duterte previously named Gamboa as PNP officer-in-charge after then police chief Oscar Albayalde decided to step down from his post after being linked in the “ninja cops” issue.
