MANILA, Philippines — Two persons were killed in a jeepney-delivery truck crash along the North Luzon Expressway in Barangay Tabuyuc, Apalit town in Pampanga province early Thursday, police said.
Apalit town police chief Lt. Col. Elmer Decena identified one of the fatalities as jeepney driver Adel Guico, 42. The other victim was a passenger, who remains unidentified as of this posting. Both died on the spot, according to the police official.
Decena said the delivery truck, an Isuzu Wing Van, was traveling northbound when it suddenly pulled over to the side of the road and parked allegedly due to gear change malfunction. A few minutes later, an oncoming jeepney, purportedly seeing no proper early warning devices before the parked vehicle, hit the rear portion of the truck.
The driver of the truck identified as Joel Reyes Bueno was unharmed, Decena said, but one of his passengers identified as Mark Anthony Ramat was injured and brought to a hospital in San Fernando City.
It was not immediately clear if families of the victims will pursue a case of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property, homicide, and physical injury against the truck driver, police said.
