MANILA, Philippines — A Philippine Air Force modernization project seen to boost the country’s surveillance capabilities is awaiting the issuance of the notice of award by the Department of National Defense.

“We are awaiting the issuance of the notice of award for the four air surveillance radar system that we are persistently working on,” outgoing Air Force chief Lt. Gen. Rozzano Briguez said in his retirement speech on Thursday.

He was likely referring to the award for Japan’s Mitsubishi Electric Co. worth P5.5 billion. It will be under the Horizon 2 of the AFP Modernization Program and a government-to-government agreement.
