MANILA, Philippines—President Rodrigo Duterte said Thursday he will appoint outgoing Philippine Air Force Commanding General Lt. Gen. Rozzano Briguez as head of the Philippine National Oil Company Exploration Corporation (PNOC-EC).

Duterte made the announcement during the PAF Change of Command at the Villamor Air Base in Pasay City.

“Now as good as any other time to tell you that from here he will be heading an office, a critical one. I fired the — for corruption; pinalitan ko and he’s going to head the exploration division of the Philippine National Oil Company,” Duterte said in his speech.

Briguez officially stepped down as Air Force chief Thursday, giving way for Major Gen. Allen Paredes to take over as the Commanding General of the country’s premiere aerial warfare service branch.

In October 2019, Duterte fired Pedro Aquino Jr, as CEO of the PNOC-EC for supposedly drafting an “idiotic contract” on his own and then having it approved by the PNOC-EC board of directors.
