MANILA, Philippines — Two women were arrested for shoplifting a can of powdered milk in a supermarket in Cubao, Quezon City.

The Quezon City Police Department (QCPD) said they arrested 51-year-old  Lena Pastor and 19-year-old Jennifer Ann Garcia on Tuesday.

According to the police report, the two slipped the powdered milk, weighing 1.6 kilograms worth around P2,900, in their sling bag.

However, the supermarket’s security guard suspected their activity, confronted them and retrieved the stolen item from the suspects.

In a text message to INQUIRER.net, QCPD Station 7 officer in chief Maj. Fortunato Ecle Jr. said Pastor and Garcia are allegedly known professional shoplifters and their motive was to resell the stolen item.

However, this was the first time they have been arrested for shoplifting, Ecle added.

Investigation on the case is still ongoing, police said.
