Duterte order gives gov’t job order, contractual workers ‘gratuity pay’

MANILA, Philippines—Job order and contractual workers in government are set to receive a one-time “gratuity pay” not exceeding P3,000 each.

This is after President Rodrigo Duterte approved the release of funds to cover the gratuity pay of job order and contractual workers in government for 2019.

Duterte signed Administrative Order 20 on January 10, a copy of which was released to the media on Thursday.

According to Duterte’s order, all job order and contractual workers who have rendered at least four months of service as of December 15, 2019 may receive a gratuity pay not exceeding P3,000 each.

Those who have rendered less than four months of service will receive the gratuity pay on a pro-rata basis.

A gratuity pay not exceeding P2,000 will be given to employees who have rendered three months or more but less than four months; not exceeding P1,500 for those who have served two months or more but less than three months, and not exceeding P1,000 for workers with less than two months of service.

Covered by Duterte’s order are contractual and job order employees under the national government agencies, state universities and colleges, government-owned or controlled corporations and local water districts.

Funds needed to implement the AO will be sourced from the respective budgets of the offices concerned.

In case of deficiency, agencies may request additional funds from the Department of Budget and Management to be charged against the identified savings of such agencies, subject to the approval of the President.
