Contraband meat worth P15M seized from 3 men in Manila

MANILA, Philippines — About 6.1 tons of contraband meat and parts of wildlife worth around P15 million were confiscated from a Chinese national and two Filipinos in Binondo, Manila on Monday night.

According to the Manila Public Information Office, boxes of meat from turtles, sea lions, lizards, and other exotic animals were seized from Chinese national Cai Chang Fen and Filipinos Rogelio Endrinal and Joshua Almario.

The two Filipinos claimed they were only the driver and helper of Fen.

Fen denied he was the owner of the confiscated items.

Despite their denial, the suspects will face charges for violation of the Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines (the Republic Act No. 10536), the Food Safety Act (RA 10611), and the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act (RA 9147).
