Eastern Samar’s Wright-Taft Road opens to motorists after landslide

TACLOBAN CITY ––Almost two weeks after a series of landslides hit the village of Binaloan in the town of Taft, Eastern Samar province, motorists could now use the road on their way and out of the province.

The Wright (Paranas)-Taft Road officially opened to motorists at noon today, January 13, the engineering district office based in Borongan City said in its report.

The Eastern Samar District Engineering Office of the Department of Public Works and Highways said that while the road would be open to traffic, clearing operation is still ongoing, saying the work has just been “substantially completed.”

The office said that there are still rocks and mud that need to be removed from the area.

“(Thus), the motorists are advised to pass with caution, watch for falling rocks and debris as clearing operations are still ongoing,” the office said.

It also said that the road would be “automatically closed” whenever there would be heavy rains.

The clearing operations is expected to be finished within this week, depending on the weather condition, ESDEO said.

To recall, a series of landslides hit Binaloan, on Jan. 3 and on Jan. 7.

The DPWH regional office, as well as the Samar Second District Engineering Office, the provincial government, and some private contractors helped in the clearing operations by providing their heavy equipment./lzb
