Twin quakes hit Agoncillo town in Batangas

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.1 quake immediately followed by a magnitude 4.0 quake were recorded in Agoncillo, Batangas, on Monday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

Phivolcs said the magnitude 4.1 quake was recorded at 3:11 a.m., with its epicenter located eight kilometers northwest of Agoncillo town.

It was of volcanic origin and had a depth of ten kilometers.

Merely 13 minutes after the quake, a magnitude 4.0 quake was recorded at 3:24 a.m.

The second quake’s epicenter was located one kilometre southwest of Agoncillo town and had a depth of one kilometer.

It was also of volcanic origin.

No damage and aftershocks are expected following the twin quakes.

The quakes were recorded following Taal Volcano’s phreatic eruption on Sunday.

Alert Level 4 is currently raised in the volcano which means “hazardous explosive eruption is possible within hours to days.”
