PITX waives overnight parking amid Taal ashfall

MANILA, Philippines — The Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITx) on Sunday night waived its overnight parking following Taal Volcano’s phreatic eruption, which has brought ashfall reaching Metro Manila.

PITX said overnight parking would be free until Monday, 6 a.m.

“Friends, bukas ang PITX 24/7 para sa lahat lalo na sa mga naabutan na ng ashfall sa daan,” the terminal said in an advisory.

(Friends, PITX is open 24/7 for everyone especially those who were caught by the ash fall while on the road.)

Free water and wifi connection are also offered at the terminal, PITX said.

Phreatic eruption is a steam-driven episode that occurs when water beneath the ground or on the surface is heated by magma, lava, hot rocks, or new volcanic deposits.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has raised Alert Level 4 over Taal Volcano which means that “hazardous explosive eruption is possible within hours to days.”

The eruption has brought ash fall which has reached Metro Manila and several provinces.

It has also led to power outages and evacuations as well as class and work cancellations in several affected areas.
