MANILA, Philippines — Work at the House of Representatives will be suspended on Monday, Jan. 13, following the phreatic eruption of Taal Volcano on Sunday.
In a statement, Speaker Alan Cayetano said the special meeting set by the House overseas workers affairs committee will be rescheduled for a later date.
The committee will discuss the repatriation of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Iraq and other countries.
The panel is also set to discuss the case of Jeanelyn Villavende, a Filipina domestic worker who was allegedly beaten to death by her employers.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has raised Alert Level 4 over Taal Volcano.

Alert Level 4 means that “hazardous explosive eruption is possible within hours to days.”
Classes on Monday have been suspended in the entire Metro Manila and other provinces following the Taal Volcano’s phreatic eruption.
All flights at the Nino Aquino International Airport were also put on hold due.
