SC suspends work in all Manila courts on January 9

MANILA, Philippines — Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta has announced the suspension of work on all courts in Manila on Thursday for the Feast of the Black Nazarene.

In a Memorandum dated Jan. 6, 2020, Peralta suspended work in the Supreme Court including the Philippine Judicial Academy (PhilJA) and the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC), the Court of Appeals, Regional Trial Courts and the Metropolitan Trial Courts in anticipation of the “magnified traffic brought about by this annual event affecting areas nearby.”

A skeletal force will be provided by the Receiving Sections of the high court’s Judicial Records Office, the Court of Appeals, Regional Trial Courts and Metropolitan Trial Courts in Manila.

The Memorandum stated that the employees who will render service on Jan. 9, 2020 will be entitled to a one-day compensatory time-off.

The day of the feast will begin with a celebration of the Holy Mass to be officiated by His Eminence Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle as homilist and Rev. Msgr. Hernando Coronel as the main presider at 12 midnight.
