LOOK: Four generations of British royal family pose for portrait to welcome new decade

The British royal family is opening the next decade with a historic portrait released today, Jan. 4.

The portrait shows Queen Elizabeth II and the next three in line to the throne—Prince Charles, Prince William and 6-year-old Prince George—in the Throne Room at Buckingham Palace. The photo was taken last Dec. 18.

The first such portrait of the four was released in April 2016, during the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Her Majesty and heirs to the throne spent the day of the shoot preparing Christmas pudding to support the Royal British Legion, a charity for veterans, as seen in photos posted on Instagram in Dec. 18.
