MANILA, Philippines — It was a tragic New Year’s Day in Pampanga after seven out of 22 passengers of a passenger jeepney were killed in a multiple-vehicle collision.
A report from Pampanga police chief Col. Jean Fajardo said the passenger jeepney driven by Hernando Dela Rosa Jr. was traversing the JASA road in Barangay San Agustin in Lubao when a Nissan Navarra pick-up truck hit the jeepney’s left portion at 6 p.m, Wednesday.
After being hit, police said the jeepney lost control and swerved to the road’s opposite lane and was hit by an incoming Isuzu dropside truck.
Police said 22 passengers of the jeepney were rushed to the hospital where seven later died while being treated.
Fajardo told INQUIRER.net in a text message that Alexander Domingo, driver of the Nissan pick-up, and Celso Sarmiento, driver of the Isuzu truck, are now under the custody of the Lubao police.
Sarmiento and Domingo will be facing charges of multiple homicide, physical injuries and damage to property, Fajardo said.
