Vice President Leni Robredo yesterday said she would continue to reach out to the most marginalized sectors of society in 2020.
In her New Year message, she also called on Filipinos to reflect on the good memories and hard-earned lessons of the past year.
“In the midst of all the noise, our dream for the nation remains clear: a more prosperous life for every Filipino family,” Robredo said. “As we enter the new year, we will continue to work hard to go down to the farthest, smallest and poorest communities in our country.”
Angat Buhay, the flagship project of the Office of the Vice President (OVP), is an antipoverty program that works with private organizations to bring resources and aid to impoverished communities.
The OVP reported that in 2019 it had provided over P353 million worth of resources to 193 areas across the country in terms of public education, food security, public health and disaster relief, among others. Over 224,000 families benefited from projects undertaken in its partnership with more than 328 organizations.
This year, the OVP’s projects include the provision of job opportunities to communities in war-torn Marawi City and the establishment of 81 classrooms and learning facilities in hard-to-reach provinces in the Visayas and Mindanao.
