5 dead in van-tricycle collision in Quezon

LUCENA CITY –– Five persons aboard a tricycle were killed by a speeding van in Mulanay town in Quezon province, 294 kilometers south of Manila, Tuesday morning.

A spot report from the Quezon police public information office identified the fatalities as Manny Reymundo, Benny Jay Reymundo, Cristy Bercero, Crisjane Reymundo, and Crisjay Reymundo.

Police said the victims were aboard a tricycle bound for Mulanay town proper when a speeding van being driven by Arnel Tesico collided with their vehicle head-on along the national highway in Barangay Sta. Rosa around 8:30 a.m.

All tricycle passengers, including the driver, suffered grave injuries, and consequently died while being taken to the nearest hospital.

The police report did not specify the relationships among the four victims, all surnamed Reymundo.

Police said the van overtook another vehicle but miscalculated and subsequently lost control of his vehicle that resulted in the collision.

The police report did not state the location and condition of the van driver after the accident.
