MANILA, Philippines — At least two people were wounded in separate incidents in Manila due to fireworks ahead of welcoming the New Year.

In an injury report from Dr. Grace Padilla, hospital director of Santa Ana Hospital in Manila, two minors were brought to their hospital as of 7 a.m. Tuesday after sustaining injuries caused by firecrackers.

A 10-year-old girl sustained injuries on her right ear caused by a so-called “baby rocket” while a nine-year-old boy had a lacerated wound on his lower back caused by prohibited firecracker piccolo, the report said.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH) earlier said the total number of fireworks-related injuries has risen to 62 which is 63 percent lower from the five-year average.
