Firecrackers, fireworks seized in Malabon
The Northern Police District on Sunday seized some P17,000 worth of firecrackers and fireworks in Malabon City from individuals who could not produce a permit to sell them.
The seized items included 108 boxes of luces, 80 pieces of Roman candles and 48 pieces of assorted fountain fireworks. They were estimated to be worth P17,210.
The items were not explicitly banned in Malabon but these were seized because the business owners failed to present a permit to sell these in the city.
Under President Rodrigo Duterte’s Executive Order No. 28, firecrackers can be lighted only in areas designated by local governments.
Section 4 of Republic Act No. 7183, which regulates the sale, manufacture, distribution and use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices, states that interested sellers must apply for the issuance of a license or business permit with the Philippine National Police district director assigned in the area.
Under the same law, licenses and permits may only be issued to Filipino citizens or entities registered with the Bureau of Commerce of the Department of Trade and Industry.
