Sleeping drunk man killed by train in Quezon

LUCENA CITY – A drunken man was accidentally killed when he was sideswept by a passing train in Tagkawayan, Quezon early dawn Saturday, police said.

Police Officer 2 Nestor Lantin, Tagkawayan police investigator, identified the victim as Nehl Joseph Eustaquio, 21, and a resident of Barangay (village) Seguiwan, Tagkawayan.

In a report that reached Camp Nakar here Sunday, police said Eustaquio was sleeping in a sitting position along the side of the rail tracks at 2:20 a.m. Saturday when he was hit by Bicol-bound passenger train T-611-MA.

Lantin said the victim died on the spot.

Police investigators found out that prior to the incident, the victim together with his friends were engaged in a drinking spree at a Christmas party in the nearby village.

The train did not stop at the scene of the incident and its operator, identified as a certain “Mendez,” escaped after the train reached its destination in Naga City before noon Saturday, Lantin said.
