CITY OF CALAPAN, Philippine – Six people, including a Canadian national, were injured in two separate road accidents in Oriental Mindoro, police said Monday.
In Bongabong town, Canadian Scott Allen, 52 a resident at Badlodge in Puerto Galera, was driving his Skydrive 125 motorcycle when he accidentally sideswiped a Red XRM 125 motorcycle being driven by Arnel Manalon, 32, while overtaking it at Western Nautical Highway in Sitio (sub-village) Looban in Barangay (village) San Isidro at around 2:40 p.m., Lt Col. Imelda Tolentino, Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan police information officer, said.
Manalon was with back rider Joel Manliquid, 30. All three involved were injured in different parts of the body and were taken to Renato U. Reyes Hospital of Bongabong for treatment. But Allen, who suffered head injury, was transferred to a hospital in Calapan City.
Meanwhile in Pinamalayan town, a tricycle driven by Erwin Licop, 40, and a Suzuki Smash motorcycle driven by Russel Atienza, 21, collided at about 3:25 p.m. The collision left all three injured.
Tolentino said Licop was with his niece Cailhey Licop, 4, and Kevin Alda, 20, as passengers while Atienza was with Jayson De Castro, 32, a construction worker.
The tricycle was traveling along a barangay road of Cacawan headed to Barangay Sta. Isabel while the motorcycle was traveling in the opposite direction, police said.
Licop’s tricycle was turning to enter the alley when Atienza’s motorcycle collided with it as it was speeding on the curved road and overtook another motorcycle.
Licop, Atienza and De Castro suffered injuries and were taken to the Delos Reyes Medical Clinic. Police said Atienza who was allegedly drunk, refused treatment.
