Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III reminded employers that their workers should be paid twice their regular daily wages should they report for work on Rizal Day and New Year’s Day.
Since these are regular holidays, Bello said that employees reporting for work should be paid 200 percent of their wages on the first eight hours, and an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate should they do overtime.
If these days fall on an employee’s rest day, he is to be paid an additional 30 percent of his basic wage of 200 percent.
Another 30 percent of his hourly rate is to be given for overtime work.
Those not reporting for work are still to be paid 100 percent of their daily wage, Bello said.
Bello said that a “no work, no pay” policy will be observed on Dec. 31.
