Boy dies after stepping on live wire in Cebu

CEBU CITY –– A five-year-old boy died on Thursday noon after he accidentally stepped on a live wire on a bushy lot in Barangay Dayhagon in Medellin town, north of Cebu.

The police in Medellin identified the victim as Rodjie Valiente.

The police said the boy and his seven-year-old friend, Andre Umacob, were heading to a village where the parents of the two minors were working.

Both boys stepped on the live wire lying on a bushy area in Sitio Bangkal, Barangay Dayhagon.

The boys’ cried in pain, calling the attention of a resident in the area.

Valiente was declared dead on arrival while Umacob was confined in Cebu Provincial Hospital in Bogo City.

Police said the live wire was attached to a Cebu Electric Cooperative post that toppled due to the strong winds brought by Typhoon “Ursula.”
