MANILA, Philippines — Three victims of gunshot wounds, among them a 5-year old boy and a 69-year old grandmother, were treated at the East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC), according to the hospital’s latest tally.
Derder Marina, 69, from Barangay (village) Tala, Quezon City (QC) was hit in the abdominal area by a stray bullet, while , Basel Live Torzar, 5, from Barangay Payatas, QC, was also hit in the lumbar area by a stray bullet.
The third victim was Genalyn Tumarong, 22, from Caloocan City.
All three patients were admitted and would undergo CT Scan for further diagnosis, hospital officials said.
There has been 34 cases of fireworks related injuries in the hospital so far, the youngest, a 3-year old boy, Bonifacio Joffar, from Commonwealth QC who was injured in the right eye after being hit by a sparkler or “luces.”
Twenty were injured from The firecracker “piccolo”.
Thirteen victims of fireworks- related injuries at the EAMC were children below 10 years old, while 14 victims were between 11 and 20 years old.
The EAMC had received the most number of fireworks-related in juries in the past years.
Doctor Emmanuel Bueno, chief of the EAMC trauma center, said that it was still too early to tell how big the number of injuries could be.
