MANILA, Philippines — The celebration of Christmas went by without a major case of crime or violence, making the holiday peaceful and orderly, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday (Dec. 25).

PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said police are heeding a suspension of operations against communist rebel but maintaining a “high state of readiness to respond to possible enemy hostile actions.”

The PNP is also helping in rescue and relief operations of local government units for residents hit by Typhoon Ursula.

“We remain alert and vigilant to prevent occurrence of crimes to ensure the security of the public this holiday season,” Banac said in a statement.
