SAN PEDRO CITY — A prisoner was shot and killed execution style in front of his security escorts in Calamba City in Laguna province on Monday morning.
The inmate was identified as Joshi Tarun, who was charged with serious illegal detention and kidnap-for-ransom.
On Monday morning, Tarun was supposed to be transferred from a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) facility in Calamba City to the next town of Los Baños in Laguna when their vehicle was waylaid by a black sports utility vehicle around 9 a.m. along the Bucal-Milagrosa bypass road.
Laguna police chief Col. Eleazar Matta, in a text message, said at least five men whose faces were covered, commandeered the BJMP vehicle towards the remote village of Lamesa in Calamba City.
There, the gunmen tied up Tarun and his four security escorts.
Tarun was blindfolded and shot.
The Special Weapons and Tactics and local police have set up road checkpoints in the area to track down the suspects.
