MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is eyeing a review of contracts between local governments and private garbage collectors after noting that disadvantaged areas in Metro Manila remain unserviced by garbage trucks.
Environment Undersecretary Benny Antiporda said the department would ask for copies of agreements between local government units and private contractors from the Department of the Interior and Local Government as a start.
The DENR earlier deployed more than 1,000 “estero rangers” and identified 279 waterways crossing different barangays all over Metro Manila where alleys are not reached by collectors. —Jhesset Enano
