MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck parts of Davao del Sur and nearby areas Wednesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.In its initial bulletin, Phivolcs reported the temblor hit two kilometers southwest of Magsaysay, Davao del Sur at 8:22 a.m.
The earthquake was of tectonic origin had a depth of seven kilometers.
It was felt at Intensity IV in Bansalan and Digos City in Davao del Sur and at Intensity II in Davao City.
The quake was also felt at Instrumental Intensity IV in Malungon, Sarangani; Intensity II in Kidapawan City, Cotabato, Davao City, Koronadal City, and Tupi, South Cotabato; and Intensity I in Alabel, Sarangani.
A magnitude 6.9 earthquake rattled Padada, Davao del Sur and other parts of the Davao and Soccsksargen regions Sunday afternoon.
Nine fatalities have so far been reported.
Phivolcs said no aftershocks or damage are expected from the latest earthquake.
