Tolentino wants Christmas bonuses for job order, contractual workers in LGUs
MANILA, Philippines — Senator Francis Tolentino has filed a resolution calling for Christmas bonuses for job order and contractual employees in local government units (LGUs).
In a statement on Tuesday, Tolentino filed Senate Resolution No. 272 calling on the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to order LGUs to provide Christmas bonuses to job orders and contractual workers by using local funds.
Tolentino said the Commission on Audit (COA) “often disallowed” the giving bonuses for local government employees despite “lack of legal basis.”
Tolentino stressed that hardworking employees should be given rewards to “inspire them to continue serving with vigor and show them that their service is highly appreciated.”
Quoting Civil Service Commission records, Tolentino said the Philippine government has employed a total of 658,678 job contract and contract service workers since 2018, and 458,787 are employed in local government units.
