2 cops dead, 4 hurt as pickup truck overshoots in Zamboanga Sibugay

MANILA, Philippines — Two police officers were killed while four other officers were hurt as the pickup truck they were on,  overshot a portion of the national highway in Malangas town, Zamboanga Sibugay.

According to a report from the Zamboanga Peninsula police on Tuesday, the Nissan Navara Frontier carrying the victims overshot the curved portion of the national highway at Purok 3 in Barangay Guilawa while going to Diplahan town at about 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Police said the truck first crashed into three Mahogany trees, crossed the opposite side of the highway and slammed into a parked motorcycle.

Killed on the spot were Cpl. Jourecel Jake Revilla Celestial and Pat. Alexander Toribio Laquinon. Those injured were identified as Pat. Stephen Ray Lanigao Alicando, Pat. Logie Suarez Servo, Cpl. Rommel Pangate Apiong, and Pat. Arcel Sugabo Matugas—all members of the 903rd Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 9.

The victims were rushed to Wilfredo Palma Memorial Hospital in Diplahan town for emergency treatment.
