The collision happened around 6 a.m. along the national road in Barangay Looc.

In a phone interview, case investigator Master Sgt. Lediboy Tamares said a truck negotiating the downhill road lost its control and hit head-on a passenger jeepney driven by Fernando Bandril and another truck loaded with sand, driven by Ronilo Caballes.

“The jeepney had no passengers on board. Most of the fatalities were (pedestrians), some out for a morning jog,” Tamares said.

The truck also hit a roadside electric post that snapped during the collision.

Bandril, Caballes, and his still unidentified helper were all rushed to the Carlos Medical and Maternity Hospital in Cardona.

The police have yet to identify the driver of the wayward truck. He also died in the collision.
