MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) will be recommending the awarding of the Medalya ng Kadakilaan (Heroism Medal)to the Manila policeman who died after he was wounded in a shootout with two robbery suspects last week.
In a statement on Monday, NCRPO acting chief Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas confirmed that Cpl. Edgil Bombase passed away due to multiple organ failure at 3:10 p.m. on Sunday.
The 49-year-old Bombase was responding to reports of armed men at the corner of New Antipolo and Tomas Mapua Streets in Santa Cruz, Manila, on Dec. 11 when he was shot by one of them.
The two suspects, Rodel Vicente and Antonio Yap, were killed.
Vicente was declared dead on arrival at Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center while Yap died on the spot.
The NCRPO condemned “in [the] strongest sense” the killing of another police officer and hailed Bombase as a police hero.
