MANILA, Philippines — There is nothing to fear in the report to be released by Vice President Leni Robredo on her findings in the government’s drug war during her 18-day stint as co-chair of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD).
“For as long as we do our job properly, I think there is no fear for us [about the report],” Lt. Gen. Camilo Cascolan, PNP deputy chief for operations, said in a press briefing on Monday.
Robredo was supposed to present her findings on the drug war on Monday but deferred it, so that government and the public could focus on helping victims of the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that rocked Davao Del Sur on Sunday.
A few minutes before Robredo announced her decision to postpone the presentation of her report, Cascolan said the PNP remains apolitical and only enforces the law.
“The PNP is for law enforcement. We are for anti-criminality. If it’s political in nature we do away with it. What we do is we just do our job, we enforce the law,” he said.
He said Robredo has the right to expose whatever she discovered about the drug war when she was co-chair of the committee.
“Whatever it is, the comment, well, we will try to see kung ano ‘yung mga dapat naming gawin para sa mga ganyang komento (what we should do about those kind of comments),” said Cascolan.
