Illegally imported meat seized in Manila

/ 04:15 AM December 14, 2019

Manila meat inspectors seized over three tons of illegally imported meat like sausage and Peking duck on Thursday. Manila Veterinary Inspection Board (VIB) chief Nicanor Santos Jr. said the confiscated meat were imported from China.

Earlier this year, the Food and Drug Administration ordered the recall and seizure of meat products from African swine fever-affected countries like China. The VIB operatives conducted surveillance on Minfei Yang Company on Kalakal Street, Navotas City, on Thursday.

They followed the delivery vehicles that came out of the storage facility and intercepted them on Honorio Lopez Avenue near Rodriguez Street, Manila, around 5:30 p.m. Some of the products like Peking duck were individually packed in plastic with Chinese characters and stored inside cardboard boxes. —NIKKA G.
