P750K worth of shabu, pot seized in various QC ops

MANILA, Philippines – A total of P750 million worth of shabu and marijuana were seized by the Quezon City Police District in separate operations this week.

Eight drug suspects were caught in the separate encounters, which yielded marijuana and shabu amounting to P510,000 and P240,000, respectively, according to a report by QCPD chief Brig. Gen. Ronnie Montejo on Friday.

In Barangay Baesa on Wednesday, 75 grams of shabu with a street value of P510,000 were obtained from siblings Ruby Rosa Manzano, 26, and Maria Elena Manzano, 23, during a buy-bust operation. Also arrested in that operation were Milbert Alonzo, 27, and Nabares, 49.

The Manzano siblings and Nabares, QCPD said, were newly-identified drug personalities and were not included in the watchlist of Barangay Masambong Police Station. Aside from the illegal substances, the marked money used to purchase the illegal substances and a cellular phone were also recovered.

During the operation, a certain Mark Anthony Verterra, also of Baesa also tried to prevent the arrest of the suspects, while another suspect identified as Romeo Cabarles managed to elude the authorities.

Meanwhile, QCPD’s District Drug Enforcement Unit recovered two kilograms of marijuana leaves worth P240,000 from two suspects who were arrested along Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City. The two were identified as John Rudolf Javier, 29, and Mark Anthony Gracila, 26, both residents of Cavite.

The buy-bust money, cellular phones, and a Toyota Vios which the suspects used were recovered by the operatives.

Montejo said the suspects were charged for violation of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, while Veterra will face obstruction of justice raps.

The confiscated illegal drugs and the other pieces of evidence were handed to the QCPD’s Crime Laboratory Office.
